Mike Greene's Long Biography

Mike grew up dodging golf balls at the Lawrenceville Prep School, where his father was a teacher (the house was in the middle of the golf course)

At age 8 the family moved to Quernavaca, Mexico for a year, after his father decided to quit teaching and become an abstract expressionist. When they returned Mike was sent to an odd coed boarding school in upstate NY, where it was customary ( but voluntary)for the children to sleep outside in army tents from September to June. He credits this three years with giving him his love of camping and prowling around in the dark, something that would hold him in good stead later in life. “The school catered to kids whose parents were separated or traveled a good deal. They fostered independence in us with the tenting concept and we were encouraged to take camping trips in the woods surrounding the school. This was in the 5th grade, something that is unthinkable today.”

He attended the Berkshire Prep school for three years and graduated from New Hope, Pa High School. After graduation he joined the Army for three years, ending up with the rank of Sgt, a Tank Commander in the 4th Recon Squadron, 6th Armored Cavalry.

Then followed 4 years at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he graduated with a BA in English Literature.. He worked as a Probation Officer and Investigator for the Public Defender’s Office, while attending graduate school at night. A chance encounter with his step-father’s well connected friends led to quitting his job and dropping out of school to work as a co-Director of COCEIN,S.A., a Honduran lumber company and he moved to the capital, Tegucigalpa.

The story of that time, according to Mike, “Reads like a really bad grade B film. Every cliché you have ever heard about Central America; the corruption, the violence, the lustfulness, the political intrigue and overall lack of the values we consider customary at home were a daily part of life, vividly displayed in brash Latin Technicolor. I left in the middle of the night in a Land Rover with one puppy, 2 cats and a wife all of us scared to death, especially me, and headed for the Guatemalan border. It was an unbelievable time that in retrospect now seems a bit entertaining , but is somewhat embarrassing to talk about as it sounds like crummy romantic fiction.”, The years passed; graduate school was completed at Kean University, with a Master’s in Behavioral Psychology. It was his Thesis that first led him to the subject of Bigfoot. He was doing research on the subject of group hysteria, which involved topics like the Bermuda Triangle, UFOs and Bigfoot and how they fit into the theories of Dr. Carl Jung, a German Psychiatrist. To Mike Bigfoot just did not seem to fit the pattern of the other phenomenon; it was just too……possible, and so the reading and investigation began….. and has never stopped.

He worked for a State Department of Corrections for a year, doing research on non-lethal weapons, and modification of incarcerated sex offender’s behavior (the two avenues of research were NOT related to each other).

He transferred within the government system to become the State's Chief Investigator for Welfare and Food Stamp fraud. While most of his time was spent administrating the County Welfare Fraud Units, his other duties included the investigation of welfare workers suspected of criminal misconduct. He was, at times, spectacularly successful at this, resulting in being in the odd position of embarrassing his superiors for doing too good a job. Regardless, he received the Governor’s Award for professional accomplishment, and was elected a Regional Director of the National Welfare Fraud Association. Michael also became a court-qualified Questioned Documents Examiner, a specialist in forgery and alteration of written and printed evidence.

In 1990 he formed Mountain Research Inc, to take people on Bigfoot Expeditions. An ad in Backpacker magazine resulted in nearly a hundred responses, the idea being to go to Ape Lake up in the glaciers near Bella Coola, B.C. However when the applicants learned of the admittedly usurious airline fees required to get them to Bella Coola, and then by floatplane up to Ape Lake, they all backed out. So he took his best friend and spent 10 days there in what he has described as some of the prettiest and most dramatic wilderness he has ever seen.

Bella Coola was followed, while on vacation from his real job, by many trips across the USA and Canada, trying to catch our elusive friend on film.
He had a solid class A sighting through his thermal imager in North Carolina in 2008. He then moved to Salisbury, NC ….and on April 28th, 2009 was able to capture on film with a thermal imager, a good two minutes of a Bigfoot.

Michael is a former EMT, 18 year veteran of the National Ski Patrol, Private Pilot and avid sailor who keeps his catamaran ALL I ASK in Chesapeake Bay.
